New Hard Disk
So we’ve been getting ready to wipe our desktop computer and upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 and completely remove the Windows XP installation. We haven’t booted into windows in a long time and I recently discovered that my CPU has full virtualization support. That means that if in the future we needed to have Windows for whatever reason, we can install it into something like Virtualbox. We also realized that we had no way of backing up all of our information (such as our photos and documents) and ended up getting a 1TB external hard disk. We’ll be using this to set up an automated backup as well as using it for our initial backup. I’ll be detailing what we do in the coming weeks on this blog. We should be able to process our photos and videos much quicker on this new version. It has a more up to date RAW processor for our imagery and we’ll install on an ext4 partition. I’m not overly concerned with the data, since we’ll be having an automated backup system in place. I guess we’ll all know how well ext4 works when we’re done here. I’ll post more as we progress.
